The US Air Force is investing US$20.7m in weather radar devices, it was announced recently.
EWR Radar Systems won the contract to deliver a minimum of 22 portable Doppler weather radar systems, with options in the contract for additional systems at a later date. The Air Force already uses 23 of EWR’s weather radar systems as part of an earlier deal.
The weather tech company, based in St Louis, Missouri, plans to manufacture the weather radar systems locally, according to the St Louis Business Journal. EWR plans to take on new employees to fulfill the defense contract, its CEO and owner Guy Blase told the Journal.
In addition its portable weather radar systems, EWR also manufactures fixed-based systems, with a client roster that includes utilities, oil companies, municipalities and foreign governments.
