WMO launches social media channel for Spanish speaking audiences

In a bid to better serve communities in Latin America and the Caribbean, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has launched a LinkedIn channel in Spanish to bring trusted climate, weather and water information to Spanish-speaking audiences across the region.

The three-month pilot is led by the WMO Regional Office for the Americas, in close collaboration with the Strategic Communication Office, and will focus on translating and tailoring existing WMO material – including flagship reports like State of the Climate in Latin America and the Caribbean– to meet the region’s specific needs.

The goal is to understand better what types of content are most useful, for whom and why. Throughout the pilot, WMO will plan, monitor and evaluate its approach to strengthen regional communication, build trust and support communities in preparing for extreme weather and a changing climate.

The LinkedIn channel has been launched in response to research that shows that people are more likely to act on climate information when it is delivered in their language and rooted in their local context, according to WMO.

The new Spanish-language channel is part of WMO’s ongoing efforts to ensure that no one is left behind in the climate conversation, and can be joined here: https://www.linkedin.com/company/organización-meteorológica-mundial/

In related news, Cyprus’s Research & Innovation Foundation (RIF), in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, has launched the ‘AI in Government’ funding program to support “digital transformation in the public sector through the deployment of artificial intelligence”.
